“Lifting the lid on journalese…”

I rather like this. I especially like the way a book on blowing the lid off how reporters talk is reported…hope he got his tongue out of his cheek =)

Oh, and my favourites from the list? Well, “bonk” is one I use, and “boffins” is one I plan on putting into my repertoire. Though if I hear one more person say “at the end of the day” I will cram the mic down their throat.

I thought that a boffin was a little black and white bird that lived on remote southern islands.

You know Lorraine, I’ve always considered you a fun loving type, despite the occasional foul mouthed tirade. As a innocent bystander, and a former Boffin, who’s views might be considered draconian, this may seem like a calculated snub. However, at the end of the day, I must admit to being a little red faced to even attempt to prose the “journalese.”

Ah … but those are BRITISH journo terms, not Canuck. Although I did once try to use “boffin”, but was overruled by a dumbass editor who didn’t know what it meant.

Surely Variety`s “Sticks Nix Hicks Pix” is the doyen of all journalese.
