This made me laugh this morning, from the New York Times. It’s nothing like traveling with my mother ever was, but I love it. My mother loved to spend money. She loved to get a deal, but she loved to spend money. She loved to let me drive fast.
Anyway. Go have a read. I’m supposed to be working and cleaning the house. But I had to share this.

What a great article. Her writing style is reminiscent of a young lady I thouroughly enjoy reading. Summer Field, or something.
I know how she feels. My job involves driving to the airport. Several times a month. For 32 years. But when we drove one of her friends to the airport (something about an expiring visa, the RCMP, and “can we PLEASE drive a little faster?”) it was all “Shouldn’t you take the QEW instead of the 403?” and “Take the exit for terminal 3!!”
Mothers will never admit their children have grown up.
When I was younger, I drove the Ammo Truck for an Artillery Regiment.
Then I delivered pizza’s and Chinese food for a living.
And I drove a dirt track stock car for a few seasons.
I also spent 8 years driving a Taxi.
For the last 9 years of my Mom’s life, I drove 120 km round trip to work every day.
…and she would still call and tell me to be careful when the roads were bad.
Oh, ya, I’m back from the Daytona 500…
…and driving through 13 states in 9 days, towing a 1977 Boler through snow and tornado warnings.
Mom would be proud.
Here’s how we did!
Did you win a prize ? For instance longest distance ? Only 1977 Boler trailer known to exist ?
I just google imaged 1977 Boler trailer. We used to have one of those parked in our cottage driveway until it mysteriously disappeared. Someone must have needed an upgrade.
Actually Kerry, we are a cultish club, Like Edsel and Studebaker owners.
With fuel costs what they are today, these campers are becoming increasingly popular, and harder to find.
If you are on Facebook, check out I Own a Boler.
699 members , who’d a thunk it ? I see that you are a very prolific poster on the page . Nice pictures of Bumblebee .
DJW. After a jug of wine do you get all snotty and call it the “Buble Bee”? As in Michael Buble (sorry, I can’t get the accent over the “e”.)
CBNTF….
No.
And never.
DJW. That’s phenomenal! Cudos to you. When you look at how close those guys are to your no doubt almost stationary trailer I am left agog at what could only have been a fiery finale. Your Boler is amazing.
Here is a shot of our qualifying lap.
Seriously, we did make an entire lap of Daytona…all the way around the outside looking for our parking lot!
Oh, I thought this was your victory lap.
