Making Daddy Proud

Aw, geez. Not sure where to start with this one. Being Wayne Gretzky’s kid must have its downsides – how do you top a career like that? But his daughter, Paulina, is sure going about staking her claim in an interesting way. She’s a pretty girl who made a splash on Twitter last year posting provocative pictures of herself until she pulled them down. Like unringing a bell or demanding a jury to disregard that last statement, her work here was done.

She’s a lovely girl with a rockin’ bod. The problem is that you just can’t force something to happen, to be ‘a thing’. She was on the cover of Flare (a Canadian fashion mag) when she was 16, to launch her ‘triple threat’ career. Her words. Triple threat means sing/dance/act. It’s all the rage with the kids these days. The trouble was, everything kind of started and ended there. She released a song called Collecting Dust. I will leave that alone. I’m nice that way.

Well, she’s back with another cover with Flare – a do over, if you like – and a half hour  TV show up here in Canada. The whole shebang is owned by Rogers Media, but if your editors are on the defensive before the issue even hits the stands, you know somebody, somewhere, knew damage control would be required. There’s simply no there, there. The pics she’s posted (and pulled) have ranged from the usual ‘look how big my boobs are’ to ‘here I am in a stripper/cop costume so you can see I play with handcuffs’ to a wide angle shot I can only believe would be appropriate if she was about to give birth. I’m not linking; go Google if you feel the need to see The Great One’s Near Naked One. And no, that wouldn’t be his wife. She had her nekkid years, years ago.

Commenters everywhere are trashing away, and I guess I see this on two fronts: a young woman trying to get herself discovered for something, anything, and then as someone far more aware that she’s being tossed to the wolves. She’s being compared to Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, and rightly so. But being unable to cut it in California (where Paulina has lived all her life), and coming ‘home’ to give it a shot isn’t going to work either. Wayne Gretzky was famous for big talent, an incredible work ethic, and for always seeming humble. Not for taking selfies in a bathroom mirror with a cell phone while wearing a push up bra.

When her debut at 16 didn’t work, she took off her clothes. She got worldwide press for it. Now she’s put her clothes back on, and the response is sneering at worst, muted at best.

i just saw Hugh reach for his phone.

I am so, so tired of people being famous for nothing. Now Kim Kardashian is going to have a reality show about her pregnancy, and get paid $16 million for it. Who watches this trash? I fear for humanity.

And Paulina needs a good swift kick in the ass. She was named after her paternal grandmother, and isn’t she making her proud?

People like to watch train wrecks . Remember The Jerry springer sow ? Judge Judy ? The slew of so called ” reality shows ” . People like to watch them and think i’m not as hot as her/him but at least i’m not as messed up as them .
It’s no different than Mike Tyson , an uneducated , not very bright , thug , getting paid millions of dollars to box . Or making thugs role models because they can play foot ball or basket ball . As if being a good athlete automatically makes you a good person . Then , when they fall off the pedestal , act surprised .
Rome had Gladiators to entertain the masses . We have television . And this is progress ?

Hey, now, let’s leave Judy out of this. Where else can you see a steady stream of people whose most reliable source of income is their income tax refund?!

  4. Kerry says:

That’s true Lorraine and what they will sue for boggles the mind . The outright stupidity is more than I can watch .

Has anyone Googled “Wayne Gretsky in a push-up bra”?
