Sooooo… whaddya think?

New digs.

I think it’s quite spiffy, myownself. I rather like the bolder colours, to contrast with my subdued character.

I’m back from Monterey and Pebble Beach, and the most spectacular bunch of cars I’ve ever, ever seen. I’ll post pics and stuff when I know what the paper wants first, but what a spectacular show. It’s called Concours d’Elegance, and I kept getting it wrong, but now I know. We also spent a day at Laguna Seca watching vintage racing. So so so much fun.

Got to trundle along the coast the first day – we had a driver – so we went down to Big Sur, and through Carmel. And Carmel Valley. And Carmel By the Sea. Yes, there are that many Carmels. I looked for Clint Eastwood every single place we went. I did not see him. More likely, he saw me first.

The Concours is a fancypants event, like Ascot or Wimbledon, but with cars instead of horses or tennis. The best part was watching what people wore. Tons of money there, but somehow, well, I dunno. I did see a few hats, but the best thing was a poodle with a hat on. Yup.

Anyway. My new site is not nearly as posh as the Concours, but it is more laid back. Hope you’ll hang out…I leave again Monday, but I’m sure Roz will hold court, as usual.

Heh.

    Holy Poop!

    What a makeover!

The last one was just adding your pic in a leather coat.

    ..and flashing Santa Hat

    Great Work WGJ!

    Nice boots BTW

  2. PJ says:

Love the new site. Brighter, cleaner and indeed bolder. It does seem appropriate doesn’t it.

Now for the serious stuff. You went to Mecca without me? Pebble Beach and Monterey races? Without moi? Lorraine how could you? Sniff….

  3. Sandy says:

I do believe that you have the coolest job in the world! Look forward to seeing the pics of your trip, both the scenery and the cars.

The new site is great, and no more freaky letters etc to decipher so that I can post a comment, is my favorite part.

  4. Roz says:

you should tell them about some of your uncool jobs.

Love the new site. I did the drive from San Fran to LA along the coast a couple of years ago. Stopping in Carmel and Big Sur along the way, and even Pebble Beach, it is an amazing drive. Probably one of the best trips.

  6. Lorraine Sommerfeld says:

    Thanks! I loooove it!

In order: DJW – there have been several new pairs of boots since those, but thank you. I do not play favourites. Well, that’s a lie. But don’t tell the boots.

    PJ – Mecca indeed. Wow.

    Sandy – Yes. I do.

    Roz – Be quiet.

Mel – Really gorgeous part of the world. Glad I got to see it. There was even a rock slide where one lane of the highway was closed. Not cool for the people who live there, but kind of amazing to see.

I dunno. Looks like that poodle is hiding its face in shame. All the real doggies are snickering at it from underneath their back legs…

You killed the anti-robot hamster! I don’t know whether to applaud or cry… My eyes are relieved, but somehow the process is all too eerily easy now – like walking into a baited trap. I’m going to miss the fun we had puzzling out definitions for our verification ‘words.’

    Awesome new look, though.

  8. David Taylor says:

I’m with Roz… as far as her last comment is concerned, that is.

  9. Lorraine Sommerfeld says:

Oh, and comments won’t be moderated once we’re up and running at full speed. Right now, Webgod has full control over this site. He will even be moderating THIS comment.

He’s like Oz without the curtain. Or the munchkins. Or the flying monkeys.

Though I’d pay to see all of that.

  10. Lorraine Sommerfeld says:

That was quick. Shall we have an evening of seeing what we can get by the moderator?

There once was a girl from Nantucket….

  11. PJ says:

    And she had a bucket….

Are you sure Webgod doesn’t have munchkins and flying monkeys? I’ve always had my suspicions about these techie types. I’m positive he must have a curtain somewhere though…

  12. Zena says:

Wait a minute – OZ had flying monkeys??

  13. Beth says:

Nice website Lorraine. I am glad to see the cats are in control, as usual.

Do you drive motorcycles or was that just a SEE WHAT A COOL GAL I AM (which you are) shot.

You have to pardon my lack of proper punctuation like the lack of question mark but my Francophone brother-in-law did some work on this computer and now everything is in dissary, this is what I get for a question mark É, this is exclamation point È, must find a fix for this and YES I did change the keyboard settings on my keyboard…any suggestionsÉ

There once was a girl from Nantucket
Who liked to wear a leather jacket (this seems more ÈLorrainishÈ)

  14. Beth says:

Oh I forgot to mention, Roz, spill the beans! That is what sister are for (I am from a family of three daughters, too) so what about these other jobsÉ

  15. Carmine says:

    I like it!

  16. Lorraine Lorraine says:

Hi Beth…cool girl shot. You got it. I flunked my licence once, I’m sure I’ll have a go at it again. Makes for good copy=) Oh! But I have a lot of miles on me on the back of a bike. I cover events and stories for real.

Roz may have stories on me, but I have stories on her…

  17. Beth says:

Go for the M liscence girlie! Having been a single parent of two boys, such as yourself, and a frequent user of your good advise in Blame it on Lorraine (as opposed to the usual boy reponse of I did not do it), I wanted something for ME. I literally woke up one morning and decided I wanted a bike. I have had my M for 6 years and love. It is also how I, Miss I-Will-Never-Marry-Again ended up being a Mrs again, meeting my husband by the pure fact that we both ride (no dirty thoughts here, folks)

  18. Chris Brown says:

Where do I put my picture? All my fans will whither to nothingness without being able to observe, and bask in the glow of, my photo.

I couldn’t figure out what happened. At the old blog site I couldn’t get anything to work. Just words and blank question marks popped up. Somehow stumbled into the right spot. Very spiffy new digs.

But no pictures of commenters. I will miss that. I would even pay the steep price of anti-roboticity to have the pictures back.

Welcome back, by the way. Oh wait… you may be gone again. I refuse to try to figure your schedule out. Have fun in Alaska. You really do have a great job. When I retire I think I’ll do your job. Or become a professional hockey player. How hard can THAT be?
